At AllthingsD conference last week, Tim Cook said that they are doubling down on Siri. Is this what he meant? Or more? MacRumors has a mockup and strong rumor that Apple would bring Siri’s voice assistant feature in its full glory to the iPad with iOS 6. iOS 6 is long rumored and is expected to be shown at WWDC next week. Siri has been a key feature with the iPhone 4S launch, however the service attracted plenty of criticism for being in beta and limited to the 4S.
The new iPad got a dictation add-on but that is far from being Siri. The rumor today claims that the new retina display iPad would get Siri with iOS 6 and a probability of iPad 2 getting the same remains. Macrumors also has a mockup of how Siri would look on the iPad.
While many hacks have tried to bring Siri to the iPhone 4 and other iOS devices, nothing would match Apple’s own implementation. There are rumors that Apple wanted to test Siri with just the 4S and add capacity gradually, or simply wanted to make the 4S more lucrative compared to the iPhone 4. Whatever be the reason, while the debate on Siri coming to iPad 2 or only iPad 3 (the new iPad) goes on, we would hope that the iPhone 4 gets a taste of Siri too. More than that, some more languages / accents and functionalities would be great. Perhaps an API for app developers?
At 2012 WWDC, Apple is also expected to revamp its Maps offering on iOS and perhaps even do away with Google Maps entirely. Let’s know your thoughts in the comment section.
